Robert was already in New England when his father made out his will dated September 8, 1630. ROBERT ABELL, born in England, perhaps in Hemington, Leicestershire, or Stapenhill, Derbyshire, probably about 1605, died in Rehoboth, Plymouth Colony, 20 June 1663 . He married, possibly in England, but more likely in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay by 1639, JOANNAH, who married second, in Rehoboth , 4 June 1667, William Hyde, and died in Norwich, Connecticut, after 1682, having survived her second husband. According to his father’s will, Robert Abell had been placed “in a good trade in London wch hee bath made noe use of.” His father then furnished him for New England, and it is probable he came to America with Governor Winthrop’s fleet, arriving at Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay, in June 1630.
His name was mentioned occasionally in the records of the Quarterly Courts at Boston and Weymouth. He requested freeman’s status on 19 Oct. 1630 and was admitted 18 May 1631. 140
