KEENEY, Alexander (b. , d. 21 Nov 1760)
Note: Lohr/Nutmegger: Their son, Alexander Keeney of East Jersey (whose wife, Hannah Keene is mentioned in the will of her father, Obadiah Sale of Newark, Essex co., N.J. on April 6, 1722 (. New Jersey Archives wills 1:400 Sale; 1:416 Shepard; 2:313 Lyon )), sojourned with Isaac Nichols at Derby, Conn. from Dec. 1722 to March 1723, then he went to Deerfield, Mass. and back to Derby April and May 1723. (TAG; 7:3).

He bought land in Newtown, Fairfield Co., Conn. in 1725 (Fairfield Co. Deeds 3:72). On Aug. 30, 1726, in Fairfield Co., Conn. he petitioned for divorce from his wife, Hannah, nee Searles, charging her with adultery, and it was granted in 1727. (TAG, 7:3; 8:2).

He owned the covenant in Bethlehem, Litchfield Co., Conn. on Feb. 15, 1735 (History of Elizabethtown, N.J. by Hatfield, pg. 262-3), and had land in Kent, Litchfield Co., Conn. in 1747, 1748, 1751(Litchfield Co. Deeds 1:249, 337; 2:85),

He died in Bethlehem, Conn. Nov. 21, 1760, and on Feb. 3, 1761 at Woodbury Probate (Woodbury Probate File 2596), widow Rachel (Keeney) Bradley said her father Allescander Keeney, late of said Woodbury, deceased, died intestate, and on April 12, 1761 his estate was declared insolvent (Woodbury Probate File 2596).

Alexander Keeney owned the covenant 15 Feb. 1735. d. 21 Nov. 1760 Bethlehem, Litchfield Co. CT. (just north of Woodbury) "At a Court of Probate held in Woodbury February ye 3rd, 1761, the widow Rachel Bradley of Woodbury appeared and informed that her Father Allescander Keeney Late of sd. Woodbury Deceased Died Intestate and Desired that administration might be granted unto her in Conjunction with Benjamin Wheeler of Woodbury. Whereupon this Court Did on ye Date above written Grant letters of Administration unto them Sufficient Bond being given." 12 April 1761 estate declared insolvent. Court appointed Hezekiah Hooker and Christopher Prentiss to review claims and demands on sd. insolvent estate and make a return in six months.

The American Genealogist 32:156 Early divorce petitions of Fairfield Co., CT. Keeney-Searls. Alexander Keeny of Stratford pet. 30 Aug. 1726 that he m. many years ago, Hannah Searls; he charges her with adultery and that she had a child b. at Elizabethtown, NJ about 10 Jan. 1723/4. Rev. Mr. Joseph Moss of Derby test. that Alexander Kenny (sic) of East Jersey sojourned with Isaac Nichols of Derby from Dec. 1722 until March next, then went north as far as Deerfield and returned to Derby Apr. or May 1723. Test. of Hannah Meeker of Elizabeth Town, midwife, that Hannah wife of Alexander Keney had a child in August 5 years ago, and another on 4 or 5 Feb. 2 years ago.

Rachel Keeney, his daughter, was of Elizabethtown, N.J. when she married in New Haven, Conn. Oct. 5, 1742, Jehihel Bradley, son of Richard and Olive (Root) Bradley. Widow Rachel Bradley died at Woodbury, Conn. Jan. 8, 1784 (Cothren's Woodbury, pg. 242 Woodbury Deaths; 562 Bethlehem deaths).
